I'm currently at a huge turning point in my life. If life were a book, as so often many refer to it as, I'm about to end on of the biggest chapters of my life. If this chapter was a book, it's the War and Peace of my series, something so large that it will forever impact where I'm about to go. Right now I'm standing on the edge with some huge decisions to make, primarily right now, where I am continuing my life.
I've been preparing for commencement and entering graduate school for the past six months, researching schools, interviewing, filling out paper work, visiting campuses, etc. In the next few weeks I will be faced with options as to where the next two, if not more, years of my life will continue. I've lived in Wisconsin all my life and one of my main goals in applying to grad school has been to leave this state. I need a change in environment and lifestyle, and some new challenges to progress me through the next stages of my life.
I'm planning on going to grad school to student College Student Personnel or Higher Education (the title varies by institution). I have really enjoyed working in the leadership development field and want to continue that on for a bit longer, if not the rest of my life. A lot is unwritten about what I'll be doing five years from now, but it's also one of the most exciting points in my life.
In May 2004 I'll be concluding my term as NACURH National Chair, a position I've held for the past year. This will call on a lot of hard work and a lot of reflection in the course of the upcoming few months. I'm ready to pass the torch to someone who's ready to carry it, but I'm afraid that I will truly miss the organization and the wonderful opportunities they have provided me. I'll also miss the opportunity to work directly with students from across the country, bringing together a wide range of ideas and situations one single institution couldn't think alone.
Finally, I'm at a point where I need to reflect on my life at the UW, something the Leadership Certificate has helped me to do, but it will need to continue on. I've worked with some amazing people on campus and will truly miss working with them. I'm excited to come back in a few years and see where the campus is at, where my organizations have gone, and see how I can continue to give back to campus.
